Light is Near

Story

My heart aches for the broken, for the struggling for the pervasive darkness. So easy and yet painful, it is to wallow in the shadows. The ancient maple remains a sentinel, steadfast, purposefully bent and broken, serving as a guide to those who pass by. The crooked tree trail marker remains open to the light, observing and living through the centuries.

The Native Americans re-formed trees to serve as trail markers. I visit my favorite crooked tree in all seasons and am reminded of the guides that walked along the way long before me. These trees are deeply rooted and formed with a purpose.

May I strive to be such a marker.

Verse

"My days have passed, my plans are shattered. Yet the desires of my heart turn night into day; in the face of the darkness light is near." Job 17: 11-12
